What happens when a space is taken away? What remains, and what can we carry with us to other places?
“The Book with the Past at the Present for the Future” invites the community from a local garden, a space they are about to lose, to create an archive of stories and memories. Together, we asked: how can we preserve the spirit, the stories, and the collective memory of a community?
At the same time, the project explores how we, as international artists, can communicate and connect from the outside, how dialogue and care can bridge distance.
We invited people to make paper together, using elements from their gardens. While creating the paper, we built a book, a gift for the community, made from the place itself. Once the paper was finished, we turned it into a collective book and held a public event: a book opening where we shared more moments, made paper at one table, and soup at another, gathering around the warmth of making and sharing.
